The Ramblers Association now have a greatly improved website which is an exceptional rescource for all walkers, hykers and young families wanting to go for walks with young children. This site lists everything from historical walks to guided walks and really audious walks.

Find A Walk Near Me by Walking Britain is a truly excellent and free resource. Just enter where you are or where you would like to walk - and print out directions. The walks are graded and you can buy a specific map of the area at the same time. These are proper OS maps and weather proofed if required.

I always think of walking as one of the few activities you can do for free - and now you can with this guide!

Another good one. Walkingworld has huge library of guides with a good selection of walks, of varying lengths and grades, pretty well anywhere in the country. The walks come in an excellent format making them very easy to follow, with photographs to illustrate every important decision point and a proper Ordnance Survey map.

A modist annual subscription gives you unlimited access to all the walks. However you can Pay As Go by downloading indiviual walks..

Camping and Caravaning

Birch Bank Farm Caravan & Campsite

Birch Bank Farm, Stamford Lane, Cotton Edmunds, Christleton, Chester CH3 7QD, UK – 01244 335233

Quiet, pretty and friendly. It's a small site on a working cattle farm. The owners are lovely, very friendly and welcoming. Set in beautiful pasture lands next to the farmhouse, you're in the centre of farm life. The site is neat, tidy and clean. Shower, wash and toilet facilities are charmingly located in the farm outhouses; they are delightfully rustic, very clean and the showers are lovely and warm. A very pleasurable stay, many thanks.

Just love this place.. Really lovely.

Netherwood Touring Site within walking distance of Chester

Netherwood House, Whitchurch Rd, Christleton, Chester CH3 6AF, UK – 01244 335583

This was our first visit in this neck of the woods and what a surprise. The campsite is such a beautiful setting with rural charm. Unlike so many campsites where you are crammed in Netherwood has lots of green space and play areas for the children. The toilets and showers spotless and everything kept tidy. An added advantage was walking distance to local shops and pubs and buses into town. The new owners made you feel very welcome nothing a bother. We will definately be back! Soon we hope

This certainly is a hidden gem!! We had such a relaxing stay and the new owners were very welcoming whilst obviously working hard with upgrading and new ideas for the park. The existing toilet and shower facilities though few were kept very clean and comfortable. I know that James and Michelle have prioritised more new facilities for the near future. We had a short tranquil walk along the canal to the bus stop for Chester and local amenities. A bicycle would have been a bonus with a cycle path right into Chester and only 2 miles. You certainly could ditch the car for a while. We will most definitely be visiting again. Thank you James and Michelle and good luck with the future.
